Why keeping Old RNC...

Why keeping Old RNC is important to us

As you may or may not know there is a New version of RNC that is in the works and according to staff it should be coming out in a few days. I just wanted to make a post about the Old RNC that people, like myself, have come to know and love. I know that there has been talk about keeping Old RNC and I am grateful to it, but I also know there has been talk about phasing it out since it will "just die".

From what I have learned about RNC is that it was started roughly 3 years ago and after the 1st year there was talk of getting a newer version, well 2 years later after hard work it is about to launch. I applaud those who spent their time, energy, and resources into making happen as I'm sure it wasn't an easy task.

Even with all this we have been told that the current (Old) RNC will stay up for those of us that wish to continue on here. This makes me and several others happy for many reasons:

  • The countless hours, days, weeks, and even years perfecting our claims.
  • The builds that we are proud of that took time collecting the resources to put up to our liking, and some are massive!
  • The memories spent making those builds with friends and the amazing events held there.
  • Holding onto claims for someone that we are fond of that no longer plays for whatever the reason, as there is still love of that person there.
  • The grave markers that players have put up for either their in game pet or memorial for their real family member, loved one, or pet.
  • The horses that people have worked really hard training to show them off in competitions for prizes and fun.
  • Memories both good and bad that most of us wouldn't want to loose.

I know a good amount of the changes that will be happening with the New RNC as I was lucky enough to be a Beta Tester, even still I would rather not give up my claims, builds, or horses that I have taken time create and level. I will continue to build, train, and play on the Old RNC that I was introduced to nearly a year now (in like 2 months I think). I know that there are several who will do the same as they want to keep up their own claims and their fur babies (pets and horses).

I know that we could always just rebuild what we have on Old RNC to the new but we will never get back the time spent in those old builds, pets, and horses trained. Nor will we get that feeling when we look at something familiar and be able to say "I built that with ___" or "____ built that for me when _____" as that experience of joy/happiness/sorrow/etc won't be attached to it.

Memories, memories are why we need to keep Old RNC.. That and for all the players who will continue to play on it!

~ Thank you

This was a very nice look at the "other sides" opinion. I love how you voiced your opinion so freely and FRIENDLY! I can see where some may feel upset by the change. However, as you probably already know, as a server we needed a change for what we hope, is better gameplay for you, the users.

Having been playing on the server for almost 3 years, I get your point with the memories. I have so many memories of players in my time, and some I miss dearly. Goodness knows I have plenty of memories there.

But I also have the owner perspective on things. If there are only a couple of players who still play regularly, that server won't become financially able to be run. We rely a lot on donations to offer everyone a well protected server, which is why we've never had issues with DDOSing or similar. So running multiple servers with that same protection takes a toll on that.

Further, it's like moving house. As a kid when you live at home, you have all sorts of memories. You grow up there, you learn there, you make friends, you become yourself there, but there's a time when you must move out. It's hard on all of us to leave a house with years of memories behind, and we don't make light of that. But we eventually have to go to a new house more suited for our needs. That's my personal take on why this server move will be a good thing.

I can't wait to make new memories with all my old friends, and new friends, to make new builds have memories, just like my builds do on Old RnC 😀

Indeed. I can't wait to make a house so Jordan can cry her musicals into.
